THE DRUMM HOUSE

The Drumm House was built around 1763 as a home for one of the workers that Sir William Johnson brought to what is now Johnstown in order to develop the town.

Once thought of as the school master’s home that theory is in question and could have been home to a number of different craftsmen or important associates of Johnson at the time of it’s erection. It was briefly owned by Judge Cady, father to the famed suffragette Elizabeth Cady Stanton and eventually became the home of the Drumm family.

PZ Drumm built the green barn style building in the backyard for the purposes of tanning and glove making. It was then purchased by the Kilmer family in the 1920s.

Finally The Johnstown Historical Society acquired this building in 1983 from the Kilmer family having been a private and upgraded residence up to that point. The historical society proceeded to strip back modernizations and created within, a living history museum to show what life was like at the time of its creation.
