THE JAMES BURK’S INN
Built in 1765 and moved to it’s current location around 1788 it served as a tavern until the Younglove family purchased the property on South William Street in Johnstown, NY in 1812. It then served as the Younglove family homestead until 1926. Additions were made to incorporate the family cobbler business and the Younglove family owned many adjoining properties where they kept livestock and farmed.
In 1926 the home was then taken over by the Johnstown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. It was handed down to Susannah Younglove, an artist and musician who continued to live there in residence with the DAR until her death in 1935. In 2014 the DAR gave over the property to the Johnstown Historical Society for it’s care while remaining housed on site.
Today it is managed in partnership between the Johnstown Historical Society & The DAR.
